The Aldrin Family Foundation of Texas was recently awarded $4.7 million by the Texas Space Commission to bring our Student Satellites in Space (S-Cubed) program to schools throughout the state of Texas.

We strive to support the development of the Texas STEM workforce through the joy and excitement of space!
This five-year grant is a partnership between the Aldrin Family Foundation of Texas, Twiggs Space Lab, and University of Texas Center for Space Research. Through the grant, we plan to bring the Aldrin Family Foundation’s two-year Student Satellites in Space (S-Cubed) program to 30 school districts throughout the state of Texas.
Our first cohort will run August 2026 to May 2028
Our second cohort will run August 2027 to May 2029
Recruitment for Cohort 1 is complete. We are currently recruiting school districts for Cohort 2. For more information, please contact texas@aldrinfoundation.org.
Through this grant, we will provide the following for participating schools:
The Aldrin Family Foundation’s S-Cubed curriculum aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
All required hand tools and Twiggs Space Lab space education hardware
Teacher professional development, including bi-weekly check-in meetings and reserved spots at UT CSR’s Liftoff Summer Institute
Technical and pedagogical support for participating teachers throughout the program
High-altitude balloon launches for each cohort for S-Cubed Year 1 Capstone
One real space launch for each cohort for S-Cubed Year 2 Capstone, provided by Voyager and deployed from the International Space Station (ISS)
Scholarly research to measure program success, in partnership with UT El Paso
